Olympics worth watching

Posted on October 2, 2006 by CD

Am I the only person in the world that finds the Olympics to be boring? There is something about the rampant nationalism and flag waving that terrifies me and makes me want to vomit at the same time. Animal Olympics on the other hand…you can be sure that I am rooing for the roo below…(but that doesn’t mean I wouldn’t eat him later)

The human Olympics may be coming to China in two years, but the animal competition has already begun in Shanghai.Over 300 animal athletes took part Thursday (September 28) in the opening competitions at the fourth National Animal Olympics, held in Shanghai.
Among the featured events were boxing bears, a bicycle race involving monkeys, bears and humans and a monkey climbing competition.
The competitions will continue over the next two months with events ranging from track and field to soccer.
More than 30 species of animals on teams from 26 Chinese provinces and cities will take part.

I’m rooting for the kangaroo too! This is totally repulsive. If you’re interested in taking action against this event, Animals Asia, headquartered in Hong Kong, has put together a sample letter that you can send via post or email to your local Chinese Embassy or tourism office.
