Slackville Road

Genre: Crime Fiction / Comic Novella

Lazy dudes. A dummy. An armored car. What could go wrong.

Jack Corgan is sitting in a prison cell getting beaten by detectives who want to know where the $1.3 million is.

He’s happy to explain.

It starts at the bumfires on Fairhaven Beach, where Two-Dog Tom and Hopalong โ€” old school bums with more philosophy than most people with jobs โ€” hold court on the meaning of slack. It runs through Ricky Thibideaux, Jack’s best friend since the day Ricky kicked his ass at fourteen, who had been watching an armored car run the same route at the same time for longer than was probably healthy. And it ends with Karen โ€” the woman who drove a van, broke Jack’s heart, didn’t return his calls, and turned out to be the only reason any of this was worth it.

Slackville Road is a darkly comic crime novella about what happens when the philosophy of doing nothing meets an actual opportunity to do something very stupid. It’s funny. It’s warm. It ends in jail.

CD Damitio’s debut novel โ€” originally published 2004, revised and republished.
