For those who don’t know – Bitcoin Pizza Day is celebrated around the world. It’s the day the first commercial transaction was made with Bitcoin – a day in which Laszlo paid 10,000 BTC for two large pizzas. Those 10,000 BTC have been worth as much as $750 million dollars at one point. But it was a momentous day. Three years ago, Pizza Dao formed RARE PIZZAS, an NFT project with a mission to have an annual global pizza party so the whole world could enjoy free pizza at least one day a year.
This year, I decided to host one of the parties. My friends from Blockchain in Paradise encouraged me, our friend Clint got Chainlink to sponsor the drinks, the Pizza Dao and OnChainMonkeys – both projects I’m a part of bought the pizza and covered other expenses – like bananas. Bitcoin Pizza Day is also an official religious holiday in the Baldism religion.
