1. Dine at the Ancient House River Resort

Staying in the luxurious surroundings of this Vietnamese resort is one thing, but eating in the restaurant is another. Even if you’re not staying here, it’s well worth heading to the resort’s lovely floating restaurant for dinner on night while you’re in Hoi An.

2. Explore royal charm in Hue

The long-abandoned Imperial City is one of Vietnam’s treasures. Set beside the Perfume River (along which you can also take a boat cruise), the citadel is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Wander its gardens and buildings to get a glimpse into how life once was for the country’s super-rich emperors.

3. Get a rack of silk suits made to measure

Hoi An in Vietnam is a popular spot with a great beach, riverside boutiques and top eateries and cafes. Another reason to head here is for the glut of expert tailors. Our tip: take a suit you love and get one of them to copy it in a variety of materials. Top of the range silks are all available here.

4. Cruise Halong Bay

Don’t scrimp. This will be one of the most stunning places you’ll ever see and it’s worth going aboard a tip-top junk – the traditional boat of Vietnam. Take at least a three day cruise to really appreciate the surrounds of soaring limestone rocks, blue waters and vast cave complexes.

5. Sip cocktails at the Foreign Correspondence Club

Phnom Penh’s capital is still coming back from the throes of its past. Before the dark period of the Khmer Rouge genocide, this place was rocking with expats and journalists from around the world, and now it is again. Grab a cocktail and watch the world go by from the terrace.

6. Check into the Four Rivers Floating Lodge

This eco-lodge in Koh Kong, Cambodia, is absolutely unique. It’s far from camping, but you’ll check into your own private tented chalet, sitting on stilts above the still waters of the river. Wake to birdsong and be waited on hand and foot.

 7. Speed across Tonle Sap

The Tonle Sap lake is like a giant thumbprint in Cambodia. From Phnom Penh, take a luxury cruise across its breadth to see the local communities and wildlife.

 8. Hang out in the Ubud Hanging Gardens

Easily one of the most jaw-dropping hotels in the world, the suites of this resort trickle down the cliff face over the Ayung River. Take a gondola to your luxury bungalow and peer out over the edge of your private infinity poo. Amazing.

 9. Listen to jazz at The Rock Bar

Jimbaran Bay in Bali is a gorgeous place. And it could only be made more gorgeous by watching the sun go down at The Rock Bar in the Ayana Resort. Nestled into the cliff face, the bar serves amazing cocktails, great snacks, and even throws in live music on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

10. Tuck in at Mozaic

Bali is a truly luxurious destination. Amongst the natural beauty, there are tons of glam places to eat, sleep and drink. But for food, Mozaic tops the list and is widely regarded as the best restaurant in the whole country. With white linen tables set amid a traditional Balinese garden, you’ll be wowed.
